The Friends School is a co-educational residential and boarding school under the auspices of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). It is the largest independent school in Tasmania. While not an academically selective school, typically 98% of its Year 12 students achieve university entrance scores through success in the International Baccalaureate or local pre-tertiary examinations. As a Quaker School, there is a commitment to service, a global perspective, equity of relationships, and the fostering of independent and creative thinking. The Schools Purpose and Concerns statement declares 'the School is based on fundamental values such as the intrinsic worth of each person, the recognition of God in everyone, the desirability of simplicity and the need to establish peace and justice. As a learning community, we are concerned for the academic, cultural, physical, social and spiritual development of each person in our care. We seek to help our students develop into men and women who will think clearly, act with integrity, make decisions for themselves, be sensitive to the needs of others and the environment, be strong in service and hold a global perspective.' We aim to achieve this through the support of all in our community.
