Toorak Primary School which was opened in 1890 is located in attractive, well maintained grounds in the city of Stonnington adjacent to Brookville Gardens. The school population has increased markedly over the past few years and continues to celebrate a culturally inclusive school community. During 2010 the school underwent a Negotiated Review, acknowledging high academic student achievement. The future focus is to develop personalised learning by taking a highly-structured and responsive approach to each child’s learning, so that they are able to progress, achieve and participate fully. In 2011 there are sixteen grades with an emphasis on small class numbers. Specialist classes include Physical Education, Music, Visual and Performing Arts and French language. Due for completion in 2011, is an architect designed building complex which includes a multi media centre as well as specialised learning facilities to support personalised learning. In order to fully engage students, the successful netbook program has been extended to include years three to six. In conjunction with the French language program, the school also provides a Spatzenschule for children of German parentage. The staffing profile is varied in terms of both gender and teaching experience with 24.41 equivalent full time staff, 2 principal class,18.43 teachers and 3.98 education support staff.
