Berinba Public School is a vibrant school which provides a broad curriculum for K to 6 students from the diverse rural community in and around Yass. Being respectful, responsible and safe are our core values and they underpin the school's programs in curriculum and student well being. The school's priorities include the engagement of teachers and students in quality teaching and learning, the implementation of positive and proactive student welfare programs and the utilisation of information communication technologies to enhance both students' and teachers' learning. Major recent achievements have included the school's inclusion in the Microsoft sponsored Lighthouse Schools Project, the implementation of the Positive Behaviour For Success Program, the establishment of the Yass Community Transition To School Program, the implementation of the Yass Transition to High School Program and the full school presentation of a school performance as part of our creative arts program. The school has planned the extensive training of all staff in teaching reading, writing and spelling strategies later in 2010. Specific programs in literacy and numeracy have led to strong growth in students' learning in literacy and numeracy from Years 3 to 5. In particular the Reading Recovery Program is offered in Year 1 and this fosters long term improvement for students who require additional assistance in reading. In addition, the Count Me In Too Program provides a strong foundation in early numeration concepts for students. Other programs offered are the extension of gifted and talented students and the school choir's participation in New South Wales Schools Spectacular over the past four years. Berinba Public School is inclusive and provides a secure, safe and productive learning environment for a number of students with special needs.
