At Holy Family Primary we constantly strive to educate our students in the spirit of our school motto, In Christ We Live, Love and Learn. We aim to develop a loving and supportive community based on gospel values. In 1938 the Sisters of St. Joseph answered the call of the families of Granville, opening Holy Family Primary School, keeping alive the vision and mission of St. Mary of the Cross (Mary MacKillop). Now in 2010, the community of Holy Family is one of multicultural diversity with families from over thirty different nationalities. This cultural diversity enriches our social experiences, with children and adults alike working to build the gifts that unite us as a family. Throughout 2009 and 2010 our school received significant government funding to support the educational and social needs of our school community. The two specific programs have been the Successful Language Learners (SLL) and the Smarter Schools National Partnerships (SSNP) Programs. The funding has allowed our school to further extend teacher learning in the areas of literacy and numeracy, with specific focus on the needs of students from non-English speaking backgrounds. Through this professional learning, staff has been successful in improving the learning outcomes of students across our school. Our 2010 National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results indicate that the growth of students between Year 3 2008 and Year 5 2010 was exemplary, with learning growth well above the diocesan and state averages. This is testament to the student intervention programs and individual learning plans implemented during this period. We aim to cater for all children through the support programs available at the school. These support programs have included the introduction of a creative arts program from Kindergarten – Year 6, with students involved in dance, drama and music. Other programs include the development of sporting skills through swimming programs, gymnastics and representation at diocesan events such as netball, soccer..
