St Joseph's School is a co-educational Catholic primary school located in Malvern in the south-east suburbs of Melbourne. It is a dynamic school where students achieve excellence and are nurtured in a caring learning environment. The school was opened in 1889 on its present site. The school has a current enrolment of approximately 250 students. It has experienced and dedicated staff, who view the pastoral care of the children and the development of children's confidence and positive values as a priority, along with good learning and teaching. We aim to provide a safe environment in which all in our community are given the opportunity to develop their full potential by offering a place where strengths and weaknesses are catered for in a supportive and encouraging manner. The curriculum is broad and varied and recognises the individuality of each student in terms of talents, readiness and special needs with special attention given to literacy and numeracy development. At St. Joseph's, we believe that children need guidance in developing attitudes and skills that enable them to effectively contribute to our changing world. These attitudes and skills are taught as well as expected of the children. Our wellbeing and curriculum programs encourage children to be optimistic, focused, independent learners and parents are encouraged to be involved in their child's learning. The school has updated all its facilities over recent years. There are specialist programs for physical education, art, music and information technology. St Joseph's has a before and after school care program that operates daily. The parent community is active in assisting in the many programs and committees at the school. The joint relationship between the school and parents is valued at all times by the school.
