Corindi Public School serves the villages of Corindi and Red Rock as well as the communities of Halfway Creek and the Range. The school is located in a rainforest and bushland setting with extensive playing fields and 2 large COLAS available for a range of activities. Corindi is categorised as a priority school, attracting additional funds in providing staff training, resources and teaching days in offering equitable opportunity and access to quality education for all students. The school is a focal point in the community and mutual respect is evident among staff, parents and students. Corindi is also heavily involved in community events including an annual Spring Fair, Senior Citizens' luncheon (our 27th this year) and Red Shield Appeal. The school also maintains close links with our local Gumbaynggirr people through regular participation and initiatives to mark NAIDOC Week. Corindi Public School is currently going through a period of change. Increasing development in the village has resulted in enrolments reaching 170, which was maintained throughout the year. Further growth is anticipated, leading to the school being placed on review with reclassification to P4 status likely in the future. Increased student numbers allowed the school to form a seventh class for the year, one per Year. It also resulted in the Principal's position being made non-teaching in a temporary capacity. Through the BER program, Corindi Public School received a new double classroom building which replaced demountable buildings. Corindi continues to promote quality teaching and effective programs including a commitment to technology. During the year a Connected classroom was installed in the Year 6 classroom. The project included video conferencing equipment, a flat screen television and an interactive whiteboard. There are now a total of four Interactive Whiteboards throughout the school as well as a laboratory of computers in the library, a band of laptops and a number of computers in each room.
