Lyndhurst Secondary College is situated just north of Cranbourne in the City of Casey Our Purpose is:“To be a progressive learning community providing challenging pathways for learning and life.“ Our vision states that: “The Lyndhurst Secondary College community is committed to providing a safe, challenging and stimulating learning environment which champions individual differences, excellence and integrity in order to develop open-minded citizens capable of contributing confidently and responsibly to an ever-changing world.” Our College is centred in Cranbourne North, in an area where most families have at least one major income source, although employment is largely undertaken outside the area. Most are from backgrounds in which completion of Year 12 or equivalent was seen as a major achievement. Our College has experienced steady enrolment growth since the late 1990’s and has an enrolment of around 1095 students in 2011. The College has a very large Gymnasium, a well resourced Drama Theatre, a large Library, as well as significant facilities in specialist areas: Music, Food Technology, the Visual Arts, separate Automotive, Wood and Metal workshops, as well as extensive Science based classrooms. Additionally the College also has a dedicated ‘Inquiry Centre’ purpose-built to support the Year 9 Inquiry Program. Our workforce has 112.2 equivalent full time staff: 4 Principal class, 81.5 teachers and 26.7 Educational Support staff. Our staff are a very broad mix in terms of age and experience in teaching, and there is a strong concentration of staff that have been teaching for fewer than ten years. They are willing participants in educational change aimed at improving student outcomes. Over the past few years the staff have had a high focus on improving connectedness with students and this has had a positive effect on College life.
