At North Melbourne Primary School we strive to develop a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our diverse community. Our professional teaching and learning milieu inspires students to become literate, numerate, socially competent, independent and inquisitive learners. Our demographics are such that a significant number of our students enrol directly from overseas, often from a non-English speaking background and from school systems that are different from ours. The community connects with the nearby academic and medical institutions, Docklands precinct and inner-city dwellers and workers. We are aware that students need to prepare for a future which might be unpredictable in terms of technology, employment, business and career opportunities, so technology, coupled with creative thinking and problem solving, is embraced. The Heritage listed main building dates back to 1874. Recent additions include the administration and classroom block, a magnificent new hall which includes a gymnasium and facilities for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. The school is surrounded by trees and gardens which are maintained by student and community involvement.
