Bellfield College was established in 2008. It is a dynamic and vibrant co-educational K-8 school with an international perspective. In 2011 the College will introduce Year 9, and then each year the next year group, until it becomes a K-12 College. It educates students from a Shia Islamic perspective, and caters for the development of the whole child. The school plays an important role in the community through its Service Learning and leadership programs and works in partnership with a number of other schools, groups and projects to enrich the students' educational experience. The social and emotional development of the students is catered for by a strong focus on pastoral and academic care. A unique approach to positive psychology through staff coaching and mentoring and student based-initiatives are currently developing across the school. The school achieves its mission through a strong Islamic Studies Program and draws on the expertise and skills of parents and community members. All students in K-8 learn Arabic and from 2011 we are aiming to offer Persian as an additional language. Students partake in a full prayer life and we aim for all students to develop skills in Qu'ran recitation. Learning is seen as a partnership between the school and the home with the parents regarded as the primary educators of their children. Experiential and enquiry-based learning approaches are promoted and developed across all teaching and learning programs. We use the Spalding approach to literacy with the younger years and are looking to provide an after school program of learning in 2011. Many of the students are from a non-English speaking background and as such we aim to provide additional support to students. Co-curricular opportunities are provided across a range of areas such as chess, public speaking and sport.
