The Essington School Darwin is located in the northern suburbs of Darwin ten kilometres from the city centre. It draws its enrolment from this region and outer rural and regional areas. Students are from a variety of backgrounds and countries and the school is popular with relocating Australian and overseas families. The School is a co-educational, non-denominational, not for profit, parent owned community school and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2009. The School works closely with the Darwin and Northern Territory community. It moved to its current site in 1992 and has undertaken considerable refurbishment and building work in the last ten years. The School's Preschool is Montessori based and operates two child care licenses. It offers a value-added curriculum from Years 1 to 10 and uses the NT Curriculum as its starting point. Academic excellence and an international focus in the curriculum are some of its objectives. The school is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and has links with schools overseas. A Data Driven School Improvement Program is used to continually improve its learning outcomes and extend its curriculum. A wide program of quality, innovative, co-curricular activities and programs are offered.
