Leanyer Primary School is located in the Darwin suburb of Leanyer. The school has specialist teachers in English as a Second Language, Information Communication Technology, Physical Education, Special Education Art/Craft and Enrichment (Languages, Music). Several of these teachers come to our school from centralised specialist schools, for example the NT Music School. The school implements two whole school literacy programs, Doorways into Practical Literacy and Guided Reading as well as the Tribes TLC? program. The school works to build on traditions, treasuring its past, valuing its present and looking forward to the future we will share together. Holistic education, with an emphasis on academic, social, emotional and moral/spiritual development is our aim. Leanyer Primary School is committed to the development of pre-service teachers. The school also employs a Defence School Transition Aide (DSTA) to assist Defence Force families as they transition in and out of the school. Leanyer Primary School is also a Charles Darwin University Teaching School. The school strongly identifies with the local community, and is very much a central part of community thinking. Our wide open spaces are used by the community for recreational purposes and facilities used for meetings conduct and developmental programmes and so on. We have a very strong and ongoing Outside School Hours Care program and provide Vacation Holiday Care. These programs are active and encouraging of the development of strong minds and bodies. Our staff are very corporately minded and collaboratively focused: we do things together and share ideas, resources and knowledge individually gained. This collaboration is a strength. Our school motto "together as one" attests to the groupship and synergy shared by students, staff and our community as a whole. We have a very strong School Council and a number of key Focus Groups in the areas of Facilities, Finance, Community Development and Fundraising.
