The Risk Public School is a small rural school that is situated in the valley formed by Gradys Creek in the Northern Rivers area of NSW. It is part of the Richmond Valley Schools Network. Many parents are engaged in rural activities or work in the closest town, Kyogle. Unemployment and under employment are district concerns. The parents have high academic, social and sporting expectations for their children and support the school in various ways. These include assisting in the classroom, at school sporting and social functions, with ground maintenance and raising funds through the school's parent body. The Parents Association also acts as an ideas generating group that assists in enhancing the school's curriculum. The school meets the needs of students by providing a balanced and enjoyable curriculum that ensures progress through individualised evaluation, programming and quality teaching. It is a Priority Schools Program school with extra funding to support the school's literacy and numeracy programs. The school's facilities include two well-resourced classrooms, a library, offices and an administration area, and a tennis court is part of a flat grassed playground.
