Bold Park Community School [BPCS] is situated on the edge of Galup (Lake Monger) in Wembley, just outside Perth CBD. The school began as a one room kindergarten in City Beach in 1998, and can now accommodate approx. 250 students from 3 to 18 years. In late 2010, BPCS was successful in gaining registration to extend to Years 11 and 12, thus providing a unique educational choice for families and students at all levels of schooling. BPCS is an independent co-educational school, inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia, which views children as strong and powerful contributors to their own learning, and gears the curriculum to suit the individual child whilst maintaining government standards. The school has also incorporated Nature Based and Place Based learning in both the curriculum and the outdoor environments. Students of all ages engage in exploring the environments which inlcudes water courses, cubby building, kitchen gardens, a mud pit and a fire pit. The philosophy of BPCS holds at its core the right of the child to participate in a learning environment, which promotes mutual respect, shared learning, reflectivity, creativity, imagination and problem solving and participation in the life of the community. The school's innovative educational philosophy seeks to consider the whole child not in isolation, but in the context of a community of learners. A unique and desirable feature of the school is the classroom structure and student-to-adult ratio. Small groups of children are taught by teams of teachers and teaching interns with the support of a literacy specialist, language, music, drama, dance, media, kitchen garden staff, Bluearth accredited teachers and an Inclusive Education Coordinator.
