Newtown Primary School is a small, community school in the central west of Geelong. With an enrolment of 242 students, we take great pride in pursuing excellence in the development of the whole child. Our school has a record of strong performance in literacy and numeracy . Programs reflect contemporary research into effective teaching and learning. Reading, Writing and Maths skills are explicitly taught within the context of authentic applications to the world beyond the classroom. Students are involved in negotiating goals and tracking their own improvement. Computer technology is used a resource in all areas of the curriculum as reflected in all contemporary workplaces.Additional programs allowing students the opportunity to shine their light are offered in music, physical education, arts, information technologies and Indonesian. School community connections are a feature of Newtown Primary School. A weekly newsletter, assemblies, community evenings, and 3 way interviews help to consolidate these connections. Parent, Staff and Student Opinion surveys reflect a high level of community satisfaction with the school and its programs. During 2011 we will open our new Multi-Purpose Room and Art Room. This facility will provide a state of the art setting for our students. Further work will be completed during the year to upgrade our Grade 5 and 6 learning areas.
