Rossmoyne Primary School, in the southern suburbs of the Perth metropolitan area, is a local intake school catering for students from pre-primary to year seven. We currently have 19 classes to accommodate the 500 students enrolled. The school prides itself on consistently high standards of student achievement both academic and non academic. Through the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum teachers have ensured sustained success in literacy, numeracy, science and studies of society and environment. Our students also benefit from an extensive music program including selective access to strings, brass and woodwind tuition. An excellent physical education program and participation in a wide range of sports contributes positively to the health and well being of our students. Our pedagogical approach includes an emphasis on cooperative and inquiry based learning and the explicit teaching of higher order thinking skills. At Rossmoyne Primary School we are committed to the development of a community of learners in which everyone sees himself or herself as a learner. In partnership with parents, through the establishment of learning teams and the application of collaborative planning and teaching practices,the school implements an outcomes focused approach to education. Student learning and the achievement of developmentally appropriate outcomes is the pre-eminent focus of our attention. In a rapidly changing world in which technology plays a significant part, the integration and application of learning technologies as a tool for learning plays a key role in the achievement of student outcomes. Apart from two new teaching blocks of four classrooms each, there are an additional eleven classrooms as well as a library, art room, music room supported by activity areas and cooking facilities. We also have an edible garden and aquaponics area contributing to the learning programs. All this is on a 4.16ha site, leaving plenty of outdoor play and court space.
