Solway Primary School proudly celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2010. The school is the centre of a vibrant, active and supportive school community with strong parental involvement. With a current enrolment of approximately 350 students, it services the surrounding suburbs of Ashburton, Glen Iris and East Malvern. Solway has a growing student population. Developing social competence is a priority, with a whole school approach to student learning and wellbeing. We recognise the importance of educating the ‘whole child’. A commitment to academic excellence sits alongside the development of creativity in our students. A strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy is supported by outstanding specialist programs, in LOTE (Japanese), Physical Education, Visual and Performing Arts and Reading Recovery. The specialist programs are enhanced by a range of engaging and enriching whole school programs and extra-curricular activities both within and beyond the classroom. These include a popular Active After School Communities program two nights a week. Emphasis is given to educating our students to live healthy, balanced lifestyles through the promotion of healthy eating, exercise, leisure pursuits and citizenship. Solway promotes the value of living sustainably through coordinated programs and practices which educate our students and their families about environmental awareness and responsibility. Our curriculum places the student at the centre, focussing on the development of knowledge, skills and behaviours that will empower them to become successful, life-long learners.
