Gilles Street Primary School is located in the Adelaide CBD and provides the community with a mainstream and a New Arrivals Program (NAP). The NAP unit provides an intensive English program for children from non-English speaking countries who are exempt from the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy tests but are included in the data for students who do not meet the national minimum benchmark. The results for children who sat the tests show that on average about 98 per cent achieved above minimum standard benchmarks. Our diverse community, which represents more than 40 cultural backgrounds, enables us to learn from each other and develop an understanding of other cultures which leads to a deeper appreciation of the richness of humanity. Our focus on respect and diversity are transparent. Areas of focus are ICT, teaching and learning, and wellbeing. Literacy and numeracy programs are a priority and the school has a strong reputation for its innovative programs in visual arts and multimedia. The school is authorised to provide the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program and units of inquiry are taught from R to 5.
