Brighton Primary School was opened in 1875 and currently has an enrolment of 800 students. It is internationally accredited by the Council of International Schools, authorised by the IB to deliver the Primary Years Program and has a Hearing Unit that supports students who are deaf or have a hearing impairment. We are educating our students for the future, to thrive and contribute to an ever changing global community. A strong sense of belonging is fundamental to fostering a safe, purposeful and inclusive learning environment in which learning is accessible to everyone. We have a whole school approach to student wellbeing and use Restorative Practice to address inappropriate behaviour and facilitate dialogue and discussion to right the wrong. This is supported through explicit teaching of the positive behaviours that are embodied in the IB learner profile and underpinned by the attitudes of the Primary Years Program. We are a professional learning community of life-long learners that scaffolds the building of respectful relationships, a deep understanding of pedagogy and improved teaching and learning practice. Our strong culture of professional learning is facilitated currently by educational consultant, David Anderson. The Primary Years Program, which is concept driven, teaches our students to develop the transdisciplinary skills needed to become 'inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.'
