Nimbin Central School provides quality education for students from the village of Nimbin and the surrounding rural areas. Nimbin Central School currently has three Primary classes, K/1/2, 2/3/4 and 4/5/6. Each of these classes is taught by a teacher with a specific interest and expertise in that particular developmental stage. Reading acquisition is a challenge and a priority for us and one we meet head on. Our students achieve significant personal growth, or value added, between Year 3 and Year 5, especially in reading. Our Literacy and Numeracy programs are powerful and are supported by contemporary resources such as Interactive Whiteboards which are located in all Primary classrooms The Secondary school has one class in each of the Year groups with the current Year 7 and the 2011 Year 7 being the largest at just over 20 students. As of 2011 we will offer Higher School Certificate studies in a compressed curriculum delivery format. This means our Year 11 students will study only three HSC subjects but will study at double time to complete both preliminary and HSC studies in those three subjects in the one year. They will then repeat a similar pattern in Year 12, and study a further three subjects at both preliminary and HSC levels, and then sit their final three HSC exams. The development of young leaders has been a significant feature of Nimbin Central School for many years and that pattern has continued in our current student cohort. Our Secondary students have represented their school and their region at State Student Representative Council level for the past three years. Our Primary leaders have a strong leadership role in the Primary department, running assemblies, directing student decision making processes and representing the Primary at the whole school SRC meetings.
