The Willows State School has been proudly serving the community since 1997 with an opening enrolment of approximately 500 students. It was built to the new standard of design which included modern classrooms to provide flexible learning environments, air-conditioning and fully integrated fibre-optic computer cabling linking all classrooms, as well as prep and special education classrooms, a library resource centre, music block, administration facilities, covered play areas, tuckshop, adventure playgrounds, basketball court, cricket nets and oval. The area around the school buildings is landscaped with underground irrigation and 2 bores. 'The Willows Way' is the foundation upon which the school's culture and ethos have evolved. KidsMatter, a social and emotional learning program, has been implemented across the school. Our chaplain helps to address the spiritual and support needs of our students. The school has an Enrolment Management Plan and can only accept students from within the identified zoned area. The zone boundaries are available for viewing on the school website. Our school logo was designed by one of our students and depicts local landmarks (Mt Stuart, Ross River, The Pinnacles), a willow tree and a local bird, the ibis. The sun is also representative of our lifestyle in North Queensland. The staff are keen, motivated and committed to the success of this vibrant school and its community. The school delivers curriculum designed to meet the academic, social, cultural, emotional and creative needs of the child. There is a clear focus on literacy, numeracy and technology with the individual development of knowledge, skills and attitudes of the child in a child-centred learning environment. Our school presents a curriculum designed around Essential Learnings and 8 Key Learning Areas and the skills deemed to be essential for lifelong learning, social cohesion and economic wellbeing.
