Dixons Creek Primary School is a small rural school located in the Yarra Valley on the Melba Highway. This school has 6 equivelant full-time staff: 1 Principal class, 4 teachers and 2 Education Support Staff. In February 2010 the school had 54 students enrolled. The school has three classes. The Prep and Year 3-6 groups are taught in the new double relocatable room with outdoor learning deck, kitchen and toilets. The Year 1-2 class has a large double classroom. Each class has a teacher assistant to assist with the delivery of individual learning programs. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and high computer ratios. This school’s vision is to provide a comprehensive curriculum that engages children and develops their independent learning skills, resilience, self esteem and social responsibilities. Mutual respect underpins our values education. Staff model caring for others and show children how to work together in teams that value each and every individual. The playground is a safe environment in which all children have the right to be respected, have friends and to feel happy. The curriculum is structured according to the Victorian Essential Learning Standards with many units of work delivered by an Integrated Curriculum approach. Lessons are planned to actively involve students in exploration and research. Students who fall below the expected level of achievement have individual learning programs and special tuition with an intervention teacher. All parents are offerred a six hour parent education course that explains how children learn.
