Mickleham Primary School is a small, rural school with a current enrolment of 107. The school recently received a new building complex of 4 classrooms and an open-learning gallery. The small population results in a variety of straight and compostie classes and the school is organised around Junior and Senior learning teams which allow teachers the opportunity to plan together and share the responsibility for the learning of students across the units. The school has 1 Principal class, 5.8 teachers and 3.1 Education Support Staff. Many families make a consious choice to drive past their local schools to bring their children to Mickleham for their primary school years. Parents believe that the smaller numbers and safe, caring and supportive community enviornment will better provide for their child / children's individual needs. The school has a history of catering for students with diverse needs academically and socially. Together the students receiving intervention and extension work or oral language and speech support represent 43% of the school population. The school provides intervention and support programs in literacy, oral language and speech. We also provide a social skills program around our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Independent Learning, Cooperation and Honesty/Integrity. We run a comprehensive transition program for our new Preps and parents and students are supported through the transition processes for year 7.
