At Geraldton Senior College we provide distinctive education to students in Years 10, 11 and 12. We are the flagship government school, centrally located in the heart of the city. We deliver academic, vocational, social, cultural and service programs for over 800 students. About 27% of our students are Aboriginal, and we have the highest enrolment of Aboriginal students of any senior high school in the State. A newly completed Language Centre, incorporating the Warlugurra Walgamanyulu program for Aboriginal girls, is located on campus. The Kicking Goals program achieves 100 per cent graduation for our Aboriginal boys. A further 2% of our students are Cocos Malay. Around 50 of our students board at Geraldton Residential College, with enrolments from as far away as the Kimberley. Most of our enrolments come from our feeder school, John Willcock College. The Mid West of WA is mineral-rich and infrastructure-ready, gearing up to become a key driver of the Australian economy. The development of the multi-billion dollar deepwater port at Oakajee, 25 km north of Geraldton, will cater for the world's largest ore carriers. This is contributing to changes in the way the college operates. Whilst there has always been strong emphasis on academic excellence and university entrance, with 25% of our students tertiary aspirants, over half our students now embark on training pathways that lead to TAFE studies, an apprenticeship, or straight into the workforce. We offer an array of Vocational Education and Training programs that cater for the variety of student learning styles, interests and career aspirations. We partner with Durack Institute of Technology and a range of industry, employment and further training organisations. Geraldton is the leading exporter of Western Rock Lobsters throughout the world, complemented by a flourishing aquaculture industry. Boating and Marine Science programs are popular.
