St Maria Goretti's is a single stream Catholic primary school, Kindy-Year 6, comprising of approximately 230 students. It was established by the Marist Fathers in 1956 and was managed by the Sisters of Mercy until 1984. The school strives to develop the whole person within a family atmosphere of love, peace and justice with Mary as its patron. There is a strong community involvement in all facets of the school and along with the entire Faith Community, the individual child is given the opportunity to develop to their full potential with Christ as their model. The school has modern facilities with Interactive White Boards and computer technology in every classroom and a lab in the library. The school offers a Phys Ed program including an Active After School Sports program, Art Specialist and a Teacher Librarian. Italian is also offered. The school has an instrumental tutor program in piano and guitar. We have extensive support programs in place in both literacy and numeracy, including a Reading Recovery teacher catering for the needs of all children. There is a strong emphasis placed on the pastoral needs of the children. The school runs the Bluearth Program and in 2010 will be implementing the Promoting Alternate Thinking Skills (PATHS) Program.
