Acton School is situated in Burnie and has spacious grounds and facilities. The 2009 enrolment is about 200. We are offering three days of Kindergarten and two sessions a week for pre-school children and their families as part of the Launching into Learning program. An exciting venture in 2009 is the development of a kitchen and garden program made possible through funding and support from the Stephanie Alexander Foundation. This program ties in with current school initiatives in Move Well Eat Well providing a healthy low cost canteen which is additive and preservative free and the provision of fruit to all classes daily. A Brekky Club also supports the health of students. Our new whole school social skills program 'Act On It' together with established policies ensure that a positive and safe environment is provided. Families are supported with on site after school care and encouraged to be a part of programs. In 2009 Acton School community together with the communities of Brooklyn and Upper Burnie Primary Schools signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will begin the process of amalgamation. The new Romaine Park Primary School is planned to open on a new site for 2011.
