Deloraine High School is a progressive school providing a comprehensive education for a wide range of students. The school vision developed in consultation with the community in 2006 includes the words 'flexible and useful to the student'. The size, location of the school and small class sizes are major advantages in personalising learning to meet the needs of individual students. The school has two priorities for development. These are Curriculum (including assessment) and Student Support (including behaviour management). Curriculum outlines of work are consistent with current requirements and teachers differentiate learning opportunities to extend all students. Inquiry and teaching for understanding are key drivers together with student input into their own learning. Student Support is based on positive behaviour support principles with an emphasis on ensuring that learning is uninterrupted. The school's anti-bullying practices and the use of restorative practices have contributed to a great reduction in behavioural issues over the last 3 years. The school has a Core teaching model where students spend a significant amount of time in one room with one or two teachers. The resulting community of learners maximises learning outcomes for all the students. Relationships are central to the work at Deloraine High School. This includes a three way partnership between the school (particularly the Core teacher), parent and student. The school is an integral part of the community and this involvement is increasing all the time. Deloraine High School has a stable and high-performing staff. They work in teams and use their collective talents to improve student outcomes. Ongoing professional learning is based on research and is leading to continued improvements in teachers' skills. Data is used to construct an annual improvement plan as well as a longer term plan.
