Set on a hillside overlooking the inviting waters of Blackman Bay, Dunalley Primary School is situated in the heart of the Dunalley township, 57 Km from Hobart. Established in 1885, the school currently has an enrolment of 121 students representing 80 families. The core values of the school are those highlighted through our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework. They are: Achievement – Acceptance – Action. These values (known as the Triple A’s) guide our behaviour management and extensive social skills teaching programmes. Our aim is to develop well rounded individuals who are capable of meeting the demands of an ever changing world. Our motto of ‘Striving for Excellence’ underpins our goal that every student has the opportunity to learn and achieve his or her potential. Teaching and learning programs at Dunalley Primary are of the highest order with a central philosophy of “success for every child”. Literacy, Numeracy and Positive Behaviour Support are our priority learning areas. All staff work hard to ensure programs are of the highest standard and delivered through a range of methods such as explicit instruction, small cooperative groups and one-to-one assistance and extension. The same high standards apply to our other focus learning areas; Society and History, Science, Health and Wellbeing and ICT. In addition to focusing on these core learning areas our students enjoy a wide range of additional curriculum areas through our specialist programs. Students enjoy Visual Art, Physical Education and also participate in a cooking program in our well equipped kitchen. Our Dramatic Arts program is well regarded. Senior students are involved in an annual production which is showcased to the community. Our school Choir is regularly invited to a number of community events outside the school.
