Fairfield Primary School celebrated 125 years of teaching and learning in 2010. It has an enrolment of approximately 400 students who are grouped in straight Prep classes and composite classes at Years1/2, Years 3/4 and Years 5/6. The class programs are supported by a range of specialist programs that include Visual and Performing Arts, Library, ICT, Physical Education. Support programs include Reading Recovery, literacy intervention and Maths support. There is an emphasis on student leadership across the programs and practices in the school. The school has 27 equivalent full time staff: 2 Principal class, 3 Educational Support Staff and 22 full time teachers. There is a high level of community support in a wide range of areas including classroom help, fundraising, grounds development, school council and its sub committees and special celebrations. The strength of the community spirit continues to be a significant feature of the school's culture. The school's shared vision aims to nurture an enthusiasm for learning. With support and guidance, all students are empowered to take responsibility for their own learning. The school's values of respect, creativity and excellence are fostered throughout all aspects of the school. Recent major works include the refurbishment of the Years 5/6 classroom area, the building of a new staffroom, junior school toilet block and resurfacing of the school oval with synthetic turf. A new multipurpose hall/gym is to be completed in 2011.
