Forest Crescent Primary School is situated in the suburb of Thornlie, which is 20 kilometres south east of the city of Perth, WA. The school enrolment for 2010 comprised around 750 students from Kindergarten to Year 7. Approximately, 5% of these students come from ESL (English as a Second Language) background and there were four indigenous students. The staff at Forest Crescent Primary School work towards achieving the outcomes as set by the Curriculum Council of WA and listed in the Curriculum Framework. Our approach to curriculum is inclusive with the aim of providing quality opportunities for learning regardless of gender, race or ability in a safe environment. This is supported by staff actions that provide the best learning environments for all children guided by five core values that include: * A pursuit of knowledge and a commitment to achievement of potential * Self acceptance and respect of self * Respect and concern for others and their rights * Social and civic responsibility * Environmental responsibility The students from Years 1 to 7 have access to specialist programs in music, visual art and physical education, whilst students in Years 2 - 7 learn Italian. Programs for gifted and talented students are offered through the District Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) program, the School of Instrumental Music and through school based programs in Visual Art. The school has a choir and a School Instrumental Band. An English as a Second Language (ESL) program supports students in their first two years in an Australian school while the Students at Educational Risk (SAER) program supports students with specific learning needs. A feature of the SAER program is the early identification of students and intervention programs implemented.
