Heatley State School is a co-educational primary school. Opened in 1971, it operated one of the first Preschool Centres in Queensland. Now we offer classes from Prep to Year 7. Our school vision is: 'We lead the way with innovative programs, inspired staff and successful lifelong learners' and all our actions revolve around this. At Heatley SS we value: Creativity, Honesty, Optimism, Personal Responsibility and Relationships. We expect all school members to live our motto: 'The Heatley Way: Learn, Care, Play' and this drives our high standards of expected behaviour. Our children come from a wide spectrum of cultural backgrounds including: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, European, Asian and the South Pacific. Some of our distinctive features include: 2010 winner of Order of Australia Medal - Primary School Citizenship; the only primary school in North Queensland with a well established biennial school musical tradition, an excellent instrumental music program and choir; HERO - our whole school literacy approach; Family Playgroup operating every Friday; a Prep4Prep program in Term 4 and an Early Childhood Program for special needs students. We also offer a Special Education Program where students from Prep to Year 7 with disabilities participate in regular classrooms with varying degrees of support.
