Illawarra Primary is located in Blackmans Bay 16 km south of Hobart. The location enables easy access to beach and bush reserves with class programs enriched by these environments. At Illawarra we believe the very best we can do is make our students literate numerate, thinking individuals with the confidence to contribute to society in a positive and ethical way. Our Supportive environment is based on a shared understanding of the rights and responsibilities of students, parents and teachers. Is it Safe? Is it Fair? Does it Show you Care? All are encouraged to use these three questions to guide choices and behaviour. Literacy and Numeracy are a priority and students can be involved in enrichment programs for gifted students, The Outdoor Classroom, maths competitions or science research. Students also participate in music, Italian and sporting groups. Parents and community members are encouraged to be involved in learning programs, School Association, literacy buddies and other volunteer roles. The success of the school's community rests firmly on a shared understanding that it is our children's wellbeing and their success which must be at the centre of all we do.
