St. John's Catholic Primary School has served the Church and community of Dapto since its foundation as a Church school in 1839 at West Dapto. The Sisters of St. Joseph began their teaching ministry at that site under the direction of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop in 1880. The school moved to its present site in 1900. This dual campus school has an enrolment of 542 students with a projected enrolment of 583 students in 2011. Kindergarten, Years 1, 2 and 3 are located on the Werowi Campus and Year 4 and Middle School on the Jerematta Campus. Students are grouped by age cohort into 22 classes from Kindergarten to Year 6. They continue their education at St. Joseph's Catholic High School, Albion Park, Corpus Christi Catholic High School, Oak Flats, Edmund Rice College, Wollongong, St. Mary Star of the Sea College, Wollongong or Dapto High School. From humble beginnings St. John's School has become an extremely vibrant and innovative professional learning communtiy committed to quality Catholic learning and teaching. This is reflected in the extensive facilities available to students, staff and the community especially, the 21 Century library and mini-hall, a synthetic grass playing field, Cola, Kinder activity and play area, large hall for school celebrations, multiple playgrounds, art room, music room, counselling and group work facilities, canteens, staff area and courtyard.
