Southside Education is an independent secondary school for girls. Most students have been unable to complete their education in larger traditional schools because of adverse life circumstances and social, emotional and cultural challenges. Our mission is to ensure that all young people have access to quality education, especially those who are disadvantaged, and to nurture the intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual and cultural development of our students. Our core values are Respect and unconditional positive regard. Students and staff focus on kindness, learning and community. About 70% of students are Indigenous. A large number of staff is Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and Elders visit frequently for consultation, workshops or special days. Southside Education adopts an holistic approach, believing young people cannot gain an education if their basic needs are not met. Assistance with transport, housing, health, counselling, childcare, parenting programs and family support are provided. Our staff is multi-disciplinary including teachers, youth and family workers and a counsellor. Cultural activities are embedded across the Curriculum while students graduate with a QCE and gain a love of learning in a school that values life experience and knowledge that students bring.
