Melbourne City School opened Prep to Year 7 in 2010, and will continue to grow to a Prep to Year 12 school in the coming years. Established by Eltham College, we are creating an unparalleled learning environment in the centre of Melbourne's CBD. Our focus is on creating learning that is relevant to the 21st Century. We are an independent, non-selective, co-educational school, welcoming students of all backgrounds, talents and abilities. We take advantage of our location and use the city as an extension of the school for learning and recreation. This unique learning environment is equipped to stimulate and inspire growing minds. Our students have the opportunity to access the rich resources of the city landscape, engaging with people, resources, community and expertise to enhance their personal and academic development. You won't find traditional classrooms and restrictive spaces, but rather modern learning spaces where creativity and learning can breathe and flourish. Learning experiences are designed to offer choice and opportunity so that young people can have a say in their learning and pursue their interests. Not only do we make learning exciting and relevant to life, we also create a very different and liberating environment where teachers and students share trust and friendship and work together in mutual respect. At Melbourne City School we value the whole student and develop opportunities for creativity, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, entrepreneurship, the disposition and skill for self-directed learning, sustainability, scientific and technological literacy, problem solving, work knowledge and skill and critical thinking. Without these opportunities literacy and numeracy have less value. We celebrate young people and recognise that the vast majority of young people are ready for huge leaps beyond this focus on literacy and numeracy into creativity. They are highly talented and ready to grasp learning and make a difference. For those students who may need further assistance, we have the staff..
