Melbourne Montessori School is a small, inner-city school for students aged Birth to 12 years, catering for a little over 300 students across two campuses - one at Caulfield South and the other at Brighton East. The school follows Montessori philosophy and strives to have Montessori trained teachers in every classroom. The focus of the school is to provide an holistic education with an emphasis on developing the individual potential of every child to the best of that child's ability. The emotional, social and physical wellbeing of the child are as important to us as their academic development. Children work from individual learning plans and are encouraged to participate in the planning of the work that they do.The strengths of the school curriculum lie in the planning for each child to develop at their own pace and for staff to continually work to develop the child's areas of strength. The attention to each child as an individual means that the curriculum is meaningful, relevant and pitched at the appropriate level for that child for all of the work they do in each subject area. In a Montessori school each classroom is equipped with the scientifically designed Montessori equipment that is renowned world wide. Using this enticing equipment to develop a sound understanding of each concept taught, enables the students to have a very hands on approach to their learning. The Montessori materials allow each child to engage all of their sense in the learning process. The materials also ensure that each child's unique learning style is catered for. When our students move to secondary school, reports from their coordinators have proven again and again that their academic skills are well advanced and they cope with the year 7 curriculum with ease. Many of our students report back to us that the work is very easy, as many have worked beyond a year 6 curriculum before they leave us. The school offers Music, Art, Physical Education, Italian, Drama and I.T. Extra-curricular activities include Chess, Choir, Yoga and a Band..
