St Mary's School, Cohuna, was opened by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan in 1926. Initially known as the Immaculate Conception, the school's name was changed to St Mary's once the Parish of Immaculate Conception was established in 1936. In 1990 the Sisters of the Good Samaritan withdrew from the school and the first lay principal was appointed. St Mary's services the communities of Cohuna, Leitchville, and Gunbower. As time has passed the school and school community have grown. Extensive refurbishment of our buildings commenced in 2000, culminating in the modern school we have today. With a dedicated staff of 10 and around 110 students, St Mary's has five classes with an average class size of 22. St Mary's is a small, family-orientated school that is open and accepting of all children. As part of the school's aim to provide a caring and nurturing environment we have in place programs such as student leadership for Years 5-6, peer support and a Buddy program. St Mary's prides itself on the ongoing parent-teacher partnership.
