Our school provides a comprehensive program in key learning areas with a strong emphasis on the development of Reading, Writing, and, Speaking and Listening. Students are taught specific reading strategies and skills, as well as explicit teaching of spelling and vocabulary. Students learn different writing forms, editing and publishing. There is a focus on a four tiered approach to literacy intervention across the school with research based design elements to raise literacy levels. Mathematics is problem-based, with students investigating number, measurement, space, chance and data and applying these skills to real life situations. Students investigate social and scientific issues working individually and in small groups. The use of technology including computers, netbooks, digital cameras, interactive internet sites and listening posts are embedded in all teaching and learning sessions. Specialist teaching is provided in Music, Science, Library, Indonesian and Art. All students have access to a quality Indonesian program delivered by a qualified LOTE teacher. On an international front we have an East Timor Friendship School in the Aileu district, Lequidoe. Our school is a “Kids - Go for your life’ School’ and is committed to providing students with the necessary skill and knowledge to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. Our gardening program is an integral part of the school and we have in place regular cooking sessions to promote healthy eating habits. Through our Tribes, Jigsaw and classroom programs, students learn respect for others, independence in learning and good social skills. Personal strengths and skills are acknowledged within the learning program which is planned to cater for individual learning styles. Our Buddy Program is a highlight in the school. As part of the Alana Madeline Foundation we are a nationally accredited ‘Better Buddy’ school.
