Newlands Primary School’s motto is ‘Encouraging Excellence’ and it provides a caring and challenging learning environment for children. The school values are Courage, Persistence and Respect and these have become a part of the whole learning culture. The school is located in the residential area of North Coburg in the City of Darebin. The school building has unique hexagonal shaped double sized classrooms and is heritage listed. The classrooms have been refurbished and include Interactive Whiteboards, wireless connection for computers and a excellent student to laptop ratio of 2:1. The current structure is four grades, with a mixture of straight, composite and multi-age classes. Specialist programs include: Music, PE and Art. We also provide students with the opportunity to learn an instrument. The school also operates a fully approved after school program daily. Parents and community members are invited to be involved in the school as: reading and classroom helpers or for sporting activities and special events. Enrolments were in decline but are beginning to increase due to a change in demographics. The school is focused on providing all students with excellent educational opportunities and improving teaching and learning in all classrooms, particularly in English and Mathematics.
