Yackandandah Primary School has an expectation that children will be happy, confident, self disciplined and motivated risk takers who strive for excellence whilst having respect for one’s self and others. The school seeks to engender a positive community spirit which encourages learning in a caring, family atmosphere where children are the focus and individual needs are met. The school culture is strongly focused on the school values of respect, responsibility, compassion, tolerance, excellence and honesty. The overall socio-economic profile based on the Student Family Occupation index is at a high level with the proportion of students with English as a second language at a low level. During 2010 the school was involved in a significant construction process with the building of new learning spaces, removal of the portable classrooms and refurbishment of the historically significant building. Despite the disruption of the building the school remained focused on literacy & numeracy teaching and learning as well as offering a broad and rich curriculum for all students. The whole school commenced the 2011 school year in the new school. The new learning spaces have been designed for this generation of learners and focused on 21st century teaching and learning practice. The learning environment is rich in provision of ICT resources, allows for flexible groupings and links indoor & outdoor learning. During 2011 the school will be focused on personalising learning for all students. Staffing at the school consists of 1 principal, 10 teachers and 3.1 ES support staff.
