Upper Sturt School has approximately forty students and is set in natural bushland on the edge of Belair Recreation Park in the Adelaide Hills. Our hectare of remnant bushland was heritage-listed in 1999 and the school is one of only two in Australia to be recognised in this way. As such, we have a strong environmental focus. We have a well-developed sense of community, demonstrated by a high level of parent participation and enthusiastic support for the governing council, sub-committees, parents and friends, and the playgroup. Our curriculum is delivered in the eight learning areas of English, mathematics, global education and languages, health and PE, society and environment, science, art and design and technology. Activities such as camps and global education days serve to foster caring and empathy among students and result in a genuine culture of support. Leadership and student voice are a natural part of our small school ethos, with many opportunities for students to develop skills and understanding in these areas. We hold an annual sports day in conjunction with other schools in the area and our students also participate in a district sports day.
