Point Lonsdale Primary School aims to provide students with an education that supports them in becoming “smart” (academically capable, problem solving, critical thinking), socially competent and ethical human beings. We want our students to be articulate and confident in their own abilities both as learners and as 21st century citizens. Our curriculum is comprehensive, based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards and enhanced through the planned inclusion of camps, excursions, arts and sporting activities. Students are encouraged to participate in activities designed to develop their potential as global citizens and future leaders. At all times the achievement of personal best is the goal. Focussed teaching at the individual point of need and emphasis on the use of authentic assessment methods and reflective practices are critical elements of our approach to learning and teaching. The school has 15.3 equivalent full-time staff: 1 Principal class, 10.4 teachers and 3.9 Education Support staff. Central to all levels of school operation is the Tribes process. The process and agreements of Personal Best, Appreciations/ No Put Downs, Attentive Listening, Right to Pass and Mutual Respect are the foundation for a supportive and challenging learning community which welcomes all comers. Parents and community members are welcomed, encouraged and supported to participate in activities designed to strengthen the learning partnership.
