Over recent years, McClelland College has embarked on an improvement journey. We commenced this journey as a school with significant challenges in a low socio-economic environment, and with a record of underperformance in comparison to other schools with similar backgrounds. The focus of our work has included some important elements. Firstly, we wanted McClelland College to be a place our students were proud to be associated with. This meant making significant improvements to the facilities, the uniform, and the values that guided decisions and expectations about how students went about their learning. We have achieved these goals, and have successfully created a very well ordered environment with first class facilities where all members of our community are clear about college expectations, where students and teachers work together with respect and positive relationships, and where students speak with pride about their place of learning. Secondly, we believed that our students were capable of doing well and to ensure this has happened, we have worked to build teacher capacity, and to provide students with learning options and personalized support. The school has 91.5 full time equivalent staff, comprising 3.5 principals, 71.2 teachers and 16.8 support staff and we continue our commitment to ongoing improvement for the benefit of our students. In 2011, our focus is on the provision of literacy support across all college programs and on the development of curriculum that best meets the individual needs of each of our students.
