St Joseph’s Nudgee Junior College is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition and it is one of 40 schools run by Edmund Rice Education Australia across Australia. Set on more than 8 hectares of landscaped grounds on the banks of the Brisbane River it operates as a boy’s only primary only school catering for 450 boys in years 4 to 7. In specialising in boys’ education we believe that the education of young boys provides unique and interesting opportunities to allow boys to grow intellectually, emotionally and socially. Nudgee Junior offers a comprehensive blend of the best aspects of both traditional and contemporary education. There is a focus on learning the basics and learning them well. Skills in literacy, numeracy and technology are fundamental to our educational program. At Nudgee Junior we have a broad range of activities designed to keep our boys busy, healthy and challenged inside and outside the classroom. Through sport and games our boys not only develop certain skills and abilities, they also learn and experience the values of teamwork, cooperation, spirit and sportsmanship. We place great emphasis on participation - and on having fun. Our extensive co-curricular programme outside the various sports includes choir, instrumental music bands, debating, public speaking, dance drama, art and chess. For the energetic boy we offer opportunities to expend energy in both formal and informal settings. As a member of the Combined Independent Colleges (CIC) Association we compete on Friday afternoons and on Saturday morning in a variety of sports from Swimming, cricket and cross country through to rugby, football, athletics, basketball and tennis.
