Established in 1983, Somerset College is an independent, inter-denominational school in the Christian tradition serving a community of families. It strives for excellence by seeking to nurture in young people the spirit of inquiry in the quest to fulfil their full potential in all aspects of life. It is located on 22 hectares of land in the Gold Coast hinterland and has exceptional facilities. Somerset has a non-selective entry policy and Somerset students have achieved consistently excellent results reflecting the quality of the programs offered. Student welfare is recognised as an important element of academic success and effective Pastoral Care programs are in place throughout the College. As an International Baccalaureate World School, Somerset is committed to educational innovation and encourages students to be international in their thinking. Students from Prep to Year 5 undertake the Primary Years Program and students from Years 6 to 10 undertake the Middle Years Program. The International Baccalaureate Diploma is an alternative offered for students in Years 11 and 12. A strong co-curricular program including sport, music, drama and public speaking supports the academic program. The College plays an important community role through the annual Somerset Celebration of Literature and the Somerset Festival for Young Performers.
