Glen Waverley Primary School is focused on continual improvement in Literacy, Numeracy, Thinking and Information and Communication Technology as well as ensuring all students feel safe and secure within the school and their learning environment. We have an above average number of students who come from a language background other than English and families value the strong connection with the school. Many students move into the local area and the school during the school year and our programs aim to build connections with the school and among students. Our staff work industriously to extend and develop their teaching skills through professional learning aimed at understanding students from diverse backgrounds and improving student learning outcomes within a whole school focus. Organised, coherent and rich teaching and learning programs support all students throughout the school. Our Smart8 and TRIBES programs together with a range of extra-curricular activities provide all students with a variety of learning and leisure opportunities whilst at school. Our students participate in a variety of assessment tasks including the NAPLAN, UNSW competitions and a range of teacher assessments. Which are used to inform student achievement and drive teaching and learning. Our school community is very supportive of the work the school is doing and parents are welcome participants and engaged in the decision-making processes of the school. In 2010 our staff consisted of 1 Principal Class Officer, 22 teaching and 9 support staff.
