Since 1963, Lalor Secondary College has provided students with educational opportunities and programs that prepare them for their chosen pathways, as well as improving their capacity as members of the community. Due to high demand for enrolment, 2011 Year 7 has a ceiling of 180, so that the school enrolment is 1140. The school's core values; Pride, Achievement, Caring, Cooperation and Honesty, are embedded in our welfare and teaching practice. We provide a caring and supportive learning environment with extensive curriculum and welfare programs that prepare students for life in a global world. A strong pathways program ensures the retention rate is high and all students in Yrs 9 to 12 receive individual counselling so their pathway is supported. We have a strong student leadership program and School Captains are members of our School Council. Extra-curricular programs include; Peer Support for Yr 7, Steps to the Future, Annual Constitutional Convention, driver education, Duke of Edinburgh Certificate and year level camps. Over 40 nationalities amongst students produce a culturally & linguistically diverse group of learners. We have a whole school approach to literacy in all areas of the curriculum. Our programs are enriched by drawing on the range of cultures and celebrated at our annual Cultural Concert. A Science Centre (BER) is being built on the site. This year we are building a VCE Centre which will further support our senior students. Significant funding has been invested in IT since mid 2009, resulting in an increase in computer to student ratio.
