Suttontown Primary School is a small school established on spacious grounds on the outskirts of Mount Gambier in close proximity to farming land and pine forests. After 50 years of public education based at the Suttontown Chapel, the current school site was established in 1917. At present there are four classrooms, but we have experienced a major upgrade funded by the Building the Education Revolution initiative of the Australian Government. The major project established a gym at the school and provided scope for the provision of a computer room, and refurbishment of the library and classrooms. These improvements to facilities have positively affected the child-centred learning environment that presents many opportunities for whole-school activities and cross-age tutoring. Regularly throughout the year, special events are organised, often by the students, to highlight different aspects of the learning program. Our values are resilience, persistence, cooperation, organisation and confidence. Literacy and numeracy are focus areas for curriculum and interactive whiteboards in each class complement our new computer room to facilitate online learning. Our Christian pastoral support worker has a major impact on wellbeing across the school community, organisation and confidence. Parent participation is encouraged in curriculum support, general activities and the decision-making processes of the school.
