Mulga Street Primary School provides a high quality educational program for all students, within a supportive learning environment, underpinned by our strong values of respect, safety and trust. We have a strong teaching focus on literacy, numeracy, science, health and physical education, as well as the performing arts, with students participating in choir and dance festivals at both a local and State level. Music from Reception to Year 7 is being introduced as a specialist subject from 2011. School concerts are performed to the wider community on a yearly basis. The school has interactive whiteboards in every classroom together with other e-learning tools. All staff utilise Easi-teach software to enhance teaching and learning programs as they prepare students to become digital citizens. Japanese is taught from Reception to Year 7 as a specialist subject and is highly valued throughout the school community. We also focus on intervention and support strategies to maximise learning for all students, with resources allocated to support the implementation of these programs. The school counsellor and Christian community support worker are valued resources supporting student wellbeing and attendance. As a Wipe out Waste (WOW) school, we are a leader in sustainability programs across the district and State. These involve strong community partnerships with local businesses. The message of sustainability and its educational value continues to be extended to Mulga Street's wider community. The school has been recognised for our initiatives in this area through local and State awards. Primary classes run sustainability programs each term in composting, recycling and waste management. A significant feature of the program is the learning that occurs in the landcare yard and chicken run. We have a whole-school fitness block taught to by middle school students to all other classes.
