St Columba's is a Catholic co-educational primary school drawing students mainly from the Elwood/St Kilda West Parish. The school promotes, teaches and lives by the gospel values of Jesus Christ-values of love, compassion, respect for the dignity of each human person, and respect for the world around us. We recognise the unique qualities of each student and strive to create an environment with a sense of security and well-being, believing that in order for students to learn they need good relationships and a supportive and engaging learning environment. The staff works collaboratively to achieve a high standard of learning outcomes with recent NAPLAN results indicating that our students achieve well above the expected level. The Australian Developmental Curriculum forms the base of student learning for Prep to Year 2, providing personalised play-based learning. In the Years 3 to 6 the curriculum is strongly inquiry-based with students undertaking collaborative projects around issues of importance to them. Specialist programs include Italian, physical education, visual arts, music and library. Intervention programs include Reading Recovery, Bridges to Literacy, and EMU (Maths).
