Kensington Public School (KPS) has a population characterised by a diversity which we celebrate. Seventy-eight per cent of students are from Languages other than English ( LOTE) backgrounds, and up to 60 languages are represented at any one time. The school is small enough to provide a "family" atmosphere and yet large enough to provide a full and varied curriculum. The school climate is enhanced by encouraging and rewarding respect for the 5 C's: co-operation, courtesy, consideration, conscientiousness and cultural background. The school enjoys a record of high academic and other achievements. After five years (K-4) of education at K.P.S., each year approximately 20% of our highest achievers in Year 4 are successful in gaining entry to selective ('O.C.') classes in other schools, where they complete the NAPLAN tests early in Year 5. This has, of course, a very significant negative effect on our school's results, which are nevertheless still excellent. The curriculum is enriched by programs in music, languages, sport, philosophy, the arts and an Enrichment Studies program which includes chess, public speaking, robotics, Shakespeare for beginners, debating and many other subjects. In such a challenging and caring environment children can and do excel.
